Dubai, United Arab Emirates; 26 December 2021 – Emirati astronauts Hazzaa AlMansoori and Sultan AlNeyadi recently visited Expo Dubai 2020 as part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBSRC) delegation, led by H.E. Salem Humaid AlMarri, Director General, bringing along several flags that they brought with them to their historic space flight to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019.
During their visit, the MBSRC team also did a ceremonial opening of the Expo portal, AlMansoori and AlNeyadi completed their Expo journey by presenting the flags they brought with them to the ISS as gifts to different country pavilions such as Syria, Sudan, Kuwait, Qatar, Comoros, Israel, Kazakhstan, Palestine, Oman, Egypt, Tunisia and Somalia.
H.E. Salem Humaid AlMarri, Director General of MBRSC said: “since it opened its gates, Expo 2020 Dubai has provided millions of people around the world a platform for discovery of cultures, traditions and innovations across the globe. It is the same spirit of discovery that we hold in high esteem at the MBSRC, which takes the lead in the UAE’s space exploration initiatives. We are delighted to have made this visit as an expression of our support and solidarity”.
“The handover of the flags is symbolic of our aspirations to connect with countries with established space programs as well as those who are also aspiring to join the league of nations with space exploration capabilities as we seek to create a sustainable and innovative future for all,” ended AlMarri.
